The Reliable Retreat on Paw Paw Lake

This is a very charming cottage with a great view. The dock is in great shape and the raspberries in the front were a hit with the kids. As the listing says, be aware there is no A/C. When the west wind blows, it will make sleeping tolerable, but otherwise summer nights are tough. An improvement that we'd recommend is having higher quality sheets. On hot nights especially, they felt cheap. Also, with the hard water and no ventilation in the downstairs bathroom, don't expect a luxurious shower experience. Go into staying here like you are going to an old lake cottage without the modern conveniences and you'll be quite satisfied.

Great location. Somethings have been updated on the home, but not enough. The water was horrible (smelled like rotten eggs). No AC (all 3 adults read the profile before we rented but none of us saw no AC listed). Dead bees throughout the house. We had to leave early due to bee hive activity near the chimney (when we reported this to the management company they did have someone come out and spray) but it didn’t get all the bees and 1 of us has a deadly allergy.

Great place! We loved the location, and a short drive to multiple wineries.

Reliable Retreat is an awesome place to stay for a summer getaway. Classic cozy cottage feel and an unbeatable location — right on Paw Paw Lake and just a short 15-20 min drive from both St. Joseph and South Haven. And Windy is an excellent host — incredibly response and eager to help and answer any questions you may have. If you can handle not having A/C on hot summer days, then this cottage can’t be beat. Hope to visit again next summer!

Wonderful family vacation spot!

We had a fun stay on Paw Paw Lake! The big dock was great for lounging and attaching our floats. The lawn was perfect for our croquet set. Nearby recommendations...15 minute walk to The Gazebo for paw paw punch and games of bags, 5 minute drive to kayaking on Paw Paw River, 10 minute drive to Sunset Drive-In Movie Theater (Fri & Sat nights).

Quintessential lakefront cottage on a quiet street. The reliable retreat is a nice blend of old and new with amenities that many other rentals are lacking.
